October NOCSAE - Addresses New Standards on Protective Gear for Baseball Players - Knoxville, TN

Thursday, October 28, 2010 9:00AM - 3:00PM EST

The NCAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations are suggesting that their Baseball and Softball Rules Committees strongly consider a requirement for pitchers and fielders wear helmets during play in the field.  Both the NCAA and the NFHS have requested NOCSAE to develop a standard for such a product. NOCSAE has also been contacted by USA Baseball which indicated it is considering the same requirement for USA Baseball-sanctioned play.

Based on these developments, NOCSAE has started efforts involving protective headgear for the pitcher, which may apply to infielders for baseball and softball.  NOCSAE plans to have a draft ready for review with an Ad Hoc group from the industry by mid October. This October 28th a technical meeting designed for product managers or engineers to review the proposed guideline specifications for the protective headgear standard will be held. It is not a forum to discuss the need for a standard. The meeting is scheduled to be held at the Airport Hilton at the Knoxville, TN.

There is no registration fee to attend this meeting and hotel information including the special room rate at the Hilton will be forwarded to companies that  register.

If attending companies wish to visit the Southern Impact Research Center there is a scheduled tour on the afternoon of the October 27 from 3:00 - 5:00PM EST. Further details on this tour will be made available after completing your registration.

This meeting is open to NOCSAE Licensees or SGMA Member companies that are interested in learning more on these developments and the protective equipment category. Any other company may contact Gregg Hartley to see if they qualify for attendance. He can be contacted at 561.543.7789 or hartleyassociated@me.com.
