The survey is an opportunity to ensure the Department’s data requests are reasonable and provides the helpful information to the industry in the future. The data being requested includes the standard employment, payroll, inventories shipments etc. information. The Department of Commerce is also seeking information specific to the Sporting Goods, Fitness and Athletic Apparel & Footwear industries such as materials consumed, products, type of business etc. Several new areas are under consideration for the 2007 survey, including expansion of cost of fringe benefits section to cover detail breakouts of health insurance plans, defined benefit plans and defined contribution plans. The survey also seeks additional information on inventories outside the U.S. to determine the portion of the total inventories held are, either stored, or en route to being stored outside the U.S. The 2007 survey will not cover leased employment and payroll information nor will it include data on supply chains.
