Tracking the Fitness Movement 1998

Exercise or - to use a broader term - physical activity has become more than a topic of national conversation. It has become a national priority as a result of an epidemic of obesity among both children and adults. Yet the needle hasn't moved much in the past eight years. In 1990 approximately 50 million people exercised at least twice a week. As the decade closed, the number of frequent exercisers remained the same. Tracking the Fitness Movement, a study produced annually by the SGMA, features participation and sales trends over the past 12 years in the fitness industry. A special demographic section analyzes frequent participants in terms of income, age, geneder, years of activity and more. Key trends in fitness activity are highlighted and evaluated for continued growth. 1998 Edition (28 pages)
